The hustle and bustle of Christmas and the celebration of the “holiday season” are drawing to a close once again. We come to the end of another year realizing that the past twelve months have come and gone rather quickly. Over the course of the past year, we have witnessed a lot of changes within our community, our nation, and our world. Amidst these changes, we also reflect upon the way in which our individual lives have been affected. In many ways, 2008 has been much the same for us as compared to previous years; however, in other ways, it has proven to be much different than what we had planned. One of the realities of life is that it involves change. Sometimes this change comes in a positive way, and at other times, the change is not so welcoming. So here we are, changed people in one way or the other, ready to move into a “new year” realizing all the while that our lives will be changed in some way throughout 2009. As we think about the reality of how life changes from year to year, we can be assured that through all the changes we may endure, God’s great love for us (His children) remains the same! The Scriptures teach us that no matter what, God will remain faithful and true. He will continue to be the grace, mercy, peace, joy, strength, and forgiveness that we need throughout the changes of life. Equipped with this promise of God, let us boldly embrace the opportunities, challenges, and changes that 2009 will bring as an avenue to serve as witnesses of Jesus Christ wherever we may go. One thing we know to be true is that in some way change will come about for each of us in 2009. But, the most important truth is in spite of change, Jesus will always be the same yesterday and today and forever! May God bless you and your in this New Year.
